STEP 1

SERVSAFE CERTIFICATE

The Los Angeles County Health Department requires you to have a food handler's certificate (also known as ServSafe). This course will give you the basic requirements for handling food. There are many half-day courses given on a regular basis to become a certified food handler.

One person, usually the one responsible for the food preparation, needs to get the State Food Protection Manager License. The course may be taken online, it costs $125. Anyone else working in the kitchen should complete the Food Handler's course. This can also be taken online and costs $15.

STEP 2

INSURANCE

All our tenants need a liability insurance, whether on an hourly or private contract. Please make sure your policy mentions the owner of the property as an "additionally insured". If you need to get insurance, here are a few options to get you started:
